Shechen Medical Clinic, Nepal.

Shechen Medical Clinic, built in 2000, is located in Baudnath, an overcrowded suburb of Kathmandu, Nepal. The clinic provides quality medical care to a large community that includes refugees from Tibet and people from the mountain regions.

The clinic offers allopathic medicine,  homeopathy, acupuncture, and traditional Tibetan medicine. There is a laboratory for blood, urine, and stool analysis. The clinic performs Pap smears and free HIV testing. Our pharmacy provides medicines on a sliding scale basis. We offer tuberculosis care and treatment through the DOTS program.

A hospice occupies a wing of the clinic where the elderly and terminally ill are taken care of in a compassionate and loving atmosphere. There is also a Women's Health Department for pre-natal care, family planning, and gynecological consultations. Health education outreach programs are a large part of the clinic's activities.

Shechen's Dental Clinic utilizes modern equipment and skilled dentists to provide dental care for those who would otherwise not be able to afford it. Our psychologist offers counseling to abused and traumatized women and children. The medical staff includes Nepali family doctors, physicians specializing in Tibetan medicine, a gynecologist, trained nurses, a laboratory technician, palliative care nurses, and visiting foreign doctors.

Through its diverse services, Shechen Clinic treats provides over 35,000 consultations annually 75% free of charge and 25% for a minimal fee. Sixty-four percent of patients treated are women and children. All patients are treated with care and respect.
