MONASTERIES - novices take a break between philosophical and sacred art classes.

The Shechen Monastery in Kathmandu includes a Philosophical college, a three-year contemplative retreat centre, the Tsering Art School and the Shechen archives, altogether housing and supporting three hundred monks of all ages.

In Bhutan, Karuna supports the education, care, and contemplative retreats for 75 Buddhist nuns at Sissinang Nunnery.

For over 25 years Shechen has been working for the preservation of the ancient cultural and spiritual heritage of the Himalayan people.

The Shechen archives house over 12,000 Buddhist paintings and sacred objects, recordings and video. Shechen has conserved and reproduced hundreds of rare Buddhist texts that are now available to scholars, universities and monasteries all over the world.
